The Bible is clear that the local church is a gathering of Christians for the purpose of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. It is a regular expression of gratitude to Christ.  When the writer of Hebrews says, “Do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together as some are in the habit of doing” he is reminding us that Christians should be active in a local New Testament church. Joining a church pleases God (Hebrews 10:23-25), encourages maturity (1 Peter 4:10-11), provides safety (Matthew 18:15-20, Proverbs 27:17), encourages fellowship (Acts 2:42-47), and aids in the spread of the Gospel (1 Thes. 1:2-4,8).
